The Tribal Perspective
The contest invites students, scholars, academicians, and researchers from tribal communities across
India to articulate and delve into pressing issues that they feel strongly about or stand for concerning
their communities. The essays should identify and elaborate on problem areas from a contemporary
perspective, highlighting their relevance in today’s socio-political, economic, and cultural context.
Eligibility
Open to students, scholars, academicians, and researchers who belong to any of the 705 tribal
communities in India.

Topic Selection
Participants are encouraged to choose a subject or cause that they feel passionately about, related to
the issues faced by tribal communities in India. This could range from topics such as:

- Land and Tribal Communities
- Water and Tribal Communities
- Forest and Tribal Communities
- Languages and Tribal Communities
- Education and Tribal Communities
- Healthcare and Tribal Communities
- Food and Tribal Communities
- Tribal Knowledge Systems and Tribal Communities
- Tradition and Modernity in Tribal Communities
- SDGs and Tribal Communities
- Cultural Appropriation and Tribal Communities

Essay Requirements
- Word limit: 1500 words.
- The essay should identify specific problems faced by tribal communities and offer a contemporary
analysis of these issues. - Participants should use evidence, case studies, or personal experiences to substantiate their
arguments. - Articulation and vocalisation of your personal perspective is greatly encouraged.
- Use of AI tools for generating content is strongly discouraged.
- The essay must be original and unpublished.

Timeline
- Contest announcement: 20th August 2024

Judging Criteria
- Relevance and originality of the topic.
- Clarity of thought and articulation of ideas.
- Depth of analysis and use of supporting evidence.
- Contemporary relevance and practicality of the proposed solutions.
- Overall impact and persuasiveness of the essay.

- Second Prize INR 5,000
- Third Prize INR 2,500
- Fourth Prize INR 1,500
- Fifth to Tenth Prize INR 1,000 each

- Selected essays may be published on the Tribal Design Forum’s platform, with due credit given to the authors.
- Winners will also receive a certificate of recognition.
