Dr Desiree Ibinarriaga, an Indigenous Mexican of Chamula (Mayan), Nahua (Aztec), Basque and Spanish heritage, is Senior Lecturer in Design at Monash University and Coordinator within the Wominjeka Djeembana Indigenous Research Lab. Her award-winning practice advances Indigenous and decolonising design, research and education, fostering cultural capacity, collaboration, sustainability, and pride in identity. She is author of Decolonising and Indigenising Design (2025, Taylor & Francis) and recipient of a 2024 DIA Award.
