Exploring Nomadic Identity

Satyam, a member of the Banjara community, hails from the Washim district of Maharashtra. As a part of the nomadic and denotified tribe, Satyam embodies the resilience and unique cultural heritage of his people. Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts, Satyam harbours aspirations to become an independent researcher dedicated to serving his community.

Inspired by the pioneering work of Prof. Virginus Xaxa, Satyam aims to delve into the intricate dynamics of identity politics among nomadic and denotified tribes. He wishes to research on unravelling the complex web of multilayered identities that shape the lives of his community members. Through his studies, Satyam seeks to shed light on the various identities imposed upon them by society, as well as those adopted in the pursuit of survival.

Moreover, Satyam is deeply intrigued by the historical perception of criminality associated with nomadism. He intends to explore the intricate relationship between nomadic lifestyles and societal perceptions of criminality, aiming to challenge stereotypes and foster a deeper understanding of his community’s journey.

Driven by a passion for social justice and cultural preservation, Satyam envisions a future where the narratives of nomadic and denotified tribes are amplified and celebrated, contributing to a more inclusive and equitable society.
