Sharing the problems faced by tribal communities to the world
Shankar Bhil belongs to the ‘Bhil’ tribe living in the Khandesh part covering Jalgaon, Dhule, and Nandurbar districts of Maharashtra. He studied in Govt. Ashram school till 10th standard and after completing his +12 studies in commerce from M J College Jalgaon, he shifted to Arts and completed his undergraduate in Sociology from Fergusson college, Pune. Currently he is pursuing an MA in Development at Azim Premji University, Bangalore.
As an individual hailing from the Bhil tribe residing in the Khandesh region of Maharashtra, his exposure to the outside world has been a transformative experience, vastly different from the familiar confines of his community. Through his educational journey he wishes to become a part of modernity with modern values of equality and liberty and asserting our rights, to understand his position in the developed and the developing world. It is education which has provided him an opportunity to become part of modernity. At the same time it also gives him an ability to make a different sense of the world and makes him reflect on the changing dynamics and practices of his community.
