Pursuit of Equality and Cultural Preservation
Phulmani Murmu graduated from Shri Ram College of Commerce, University of Delhi. She belongs to the Santal tribe and hails from Rourkela, Odisha, a small city where she grew up largely unaware of the deep-rooted social discrimination prevalent in the broader world. Moving to Delhi for her undergraduate studies marked a significant turning point in her life. For the first time, she encountered and began to comprehend the realities of casteism and other forms of social inequality. These experiences profoundly shaped her perspective and ignited her interest in addressing these issues.
As she gradually became more aware, she actively engaged in discussions and sought to learn more about social injustices, particularly those affecting marginalized communities. This journey has fueled her passion for raising awareness and advocating for equality, bringing attention to these pressing issues. It has also deepened her commitment to preserving indigenous traditions and languages. Through discussions on social issues such as casteism, gender discrimination, and politics, she not only strives to highlight the injustices faced by marginalized communities but also emphasizes the importance of preserving cultural identity in a rapidly changing world.
