Miguel Figueira

Miguel Figueira is an awarded architect who graduated from the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto in 1993. He is the author of projects with relevant social and territorial impact, such as the escalators on the degraded slope of the historic centre of Montemor-o-Velho or the nautical centre in the abandoned bed of the Mondego River, distinguished by the International Association of Art Critics. Miguel is the founding member of the civic movement – SOS Cabedelo, that defends the recognition of the sea and waves in territorial planning and coastal protection policies – a movement awarded by the Millennium Movement. Miguel has authored the book O Mar É a Nossa Terra, has co-curated the Homonymous exhibition and has co-authored the Bauhaus of the Seas manifesto.

Miguel is the recipient of many prestigious awards like the American Institute of Architects President’s Prize, in Montreal, (1990), National Award for Architecture Alexandre Herculano (2003) and Honorable Mention by Instituto da Habitação e Reabilitação Urbana, IHRU, for Public Space Interventions at Montemor-o-Velho (2014). Movimento Milénio on the Civic Movement Contribution for Urban Design – CIDADESURF2011 (2011).

Miguel’s work has been distinguished by International Association of Art Critics, AICA 2011, and figured at the 16th International Architecture Exhibition, La Biennale di Venezia 2018.
