Rediscovering Roots Through Threads: A Journey in Fashion and Tribal Heritage
As a Fashion Design graduate from NIFT Chennai, Arpana embarked on a transformative journey of self-discovery, transitioning from a Delhi upbringing with limited exposure to her cultural roots. Fueled by an insatiable curiosity, her quest led her to Johargram—the one source that unveiled the concealed and forgotten heritage of the Oraon Tribe.
Interning with Johargram, she delved into the rich traditions of the Oraon Tribe, weaving their traditional textiles into a collection that earned her the prestigious “Best use of Traditional Skills in Contemporary Styling Award” for her Graduation Project. This experience not only marked a milestone in her fashion career but also symbolised Arpana’s profound connection with tribal heritage, from inhibition to appreciation.
