Illustrating the Oraon and Munda folk stories
Anurag Ekka is a Freelance Animator and Illustrator currently located in Ranchi, Jharkhand. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Animation Film Design from National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad. He did his internship at Cuemath in Bengaluru.
His area of specialisation is animation and filmmaking as he enjoys characters, watching movies and bringing characters to life. Design for him is not just an abstract thing, it has to come from a place of empathy where a designer has to consider the convenience of the end user who will use the product or service. .
To witness his first animated character moving and coming to life was the most memorable experience of Anurag as an Animator. One of his assignments included Stock Motion where characters are made out of physical materials and made into an animation film. His graduation project included a short story animation from his personal experiences including his families and friends. The story explores the idea of someone getting lost and finding their way back.
His very first project was for Tribal Design Forum where he illustrated one page comics based on Oraon and Munda folk stories for children to colour. Another project was with an edutech company called Cuemath where he illustrated maths problems meant for middle school children.
He wishes to document different music of indigenous communities along with its relations to various seasons in different regions. He believes in preserving the traditions as well innovating to evolve the culture.
