Tribal Design Forum and India Tourism Mumbai celebrate The International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples through an Online Quiz Contest
The winner wins a trip to the Sohrai and Kohvar Painted Villages of Hazaribagh

Tribal Design Forum – a community of multidisciplinary designers of tribal origin from across the country and India Tourism Mumbai got together online with quiz enthusiasts from some of the leading institutions of India to celebrate the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples through the second edition of the Tribal Heritage of India Quiz Contest. The content of the quiz covered various aspects of tribal culture, history, geography, museums, art, architecture, music, dance, textiles, cuisine, language, scripts, literature and indigenous knowledge systems highlighting the rich tribal heritage of India.
Speaking on the occasion, Venkatesan Dhattatreyan, Regional Director Western Region, Indiatourism Mumbai said“India Tourism Mumbai has been engaged with Tribal Design Forum on various initiatives in the past and it appreciates the value that the Forum brings to us in promoting tourism and creating awareness. The quiz was not only a learning experience about the tribes but also very competitive. Finally, all the participants emerged winners as each carry back new knowledge on the tribal heritage of India.”
This hotly contested quiz contest culminating with top ten winners. Abhijeet Munda from Ranchi University winning a two-night, three-days all expenses paid experiential trip to the Sohrai and Kohvar painted villages of Hazaribagh, to be hosted by Sanskriti Homestays. The grand prize of the Tribal Heritage of India Quiz is being sponsored by the Tribal Design Forum community.
A total of ten prizes were announced for the top ten winners, apart from the grand prize. The top five winners – Abhijeet Munda (Ranchi), K Margaret Zinyu(Kohima), Joseph Loui (Goa), K. Prajwal (Bangalore), Shreya Roy Chowdhury (Gwalior) – get gift hampers of exquisite Incredible India merchandise comprising of products created and directly sourced from various tribes across India. provided by India Tourism Mumbai.
The next five winners, sixth place to tenth place – AtharvTamore(Mumbai), Akash P.J. Manki(Jamshedpur), KeviselhouChatsu(Mumbai), Rohit Kumar Bose (Gwalior), Harshad Janardan Ghadge (Mumbai) – get gift hampers from Hill Wild, an enterprise based in Ukhrul, Manipur that produces an eclectic mix of food and agro products from indigenous produce.
The quiz was not only was a platform for creating greater awareness about the rich culture of the tribal communities in India but at the same time encouraged the promotion of unique products from around the country, designed by tribal designers and handcrafted by indigenous artisans, as reflected in the pool of prizes curated by the Tribal Design Forum and India Tourism Mumbai. The grand prize also is a strategic plan by the forum to create awareness and promote indigenous tourism by providing an immersive experience to visitor.
“As the world celebrates the International Day for the Indigenous People, we would like to use this day to create awareness about the unique diversity of the many tribal cultures that are there in India.Creating awareness about the diverse tribal cultures and values is important to foster a better understanding of tribal communities. And the quiz contest an outreach to have a conversation with rest of our country people to enable them to discover, explore and learn about the rich tribal heritage of India,” said Sudhir John Horo, convenor of the Tribal Design Forum.
The Tribal Design Forum seeks to inspire designers of tribal origin and create an enabling platform for them to practice design for the betterment of tribal communities in India.
The Forum organises weekly interactions with domain experts working with tribal communities in India and around the world to learn from global case studies and best practices. Over the past year, the platform has seen experts from countries like Australia, Cook Islands, El Salvador, Fiji Island Finland, France, Nigeria, Norway, Portugal, UK, USA among others.
