About Linoka Shikhu

Linoka Shikhu is a textile designer from Nagaland who studied design at the National Institute of Design, Haryana. From an early age she has always been inclined towards creating and expressing through art. Her design education taught her many aspects about design, and engaging with craft communities and working around the concept of design intervention.

She has integrated storytelling through the material culture influenced by the arts and crafts. She believes textiles have become much more than pieces of fabric, they are a form of roots that are interwoven and tells us much more. The learnings seem to never end and what is interesting to her is how as an animistic community in the past, their strong connection with nature reflects even in the way textiles are worn, made, and presented. It is symbiotic and authentic hence perceiving textiles in such a way is a strong suit and can also be an interesting outlook for future generations to work towards. She hopes her work and learnings can be a contributing factor of an important part of her culture as well and the other way round.
