Change, the only constant in life has brought dynamic waves of ebb and flow in the tribal communities. Much has been lost in the tide of time but now the narratives are changing. The once docile hibernating tribes are slowly expanding their wings to take their flight.
Young and old, city folks and village folks all full of aspirations and creative expressions are coming together to not only understand and acknowledge but also embrace their tribal heritage.
Future abounds with expressing a contemporary idea of who and what is a “Tribal” with the tribes themselves exercising their right to self-determination.
Metamorphosis is ongoing among the tribals and the tribes are transitioning to fly not on borrowed identities but their own.

Annual Meeting of the Tribal Design Forum 2023

Tribal Design Forum is India’s only community of multidisciplinary designers and creative professionals from various tribes of India. The forum seeks to explore how design and other creative activities could help the tribal communities – economically, socially and culturally.
Since 2021, the Tribal Design Forum has been organizing weekly online interactions with domain experts across sectors who either belong to indigenous communities or have been working for the benefit of indigenous communities not just in India but across the world – the basic purpose is to create an awareness amongst the members of the tribal communities in India of the global best practices, case studies, success stories and more importantly about other tribal communities and indigenous cultures.

After over two years of online engagement, the Tribal Design Forum is convening for a period of four days, from 20th October to 24th October, at the Adivasi (Tribal) Academy in Tejgadh, Gujarat www.adivasiacademy.org for a bootcamp to explore how designers and creative professionals can utilize their skill, expertise and resources for the benefit of tribal communities in India across sectors.
The five-day event – TRIBES IN TRANSITION and Annual Meeting of the Tribal Design Forum 2023, will comprise keynotes, case study presentations, sharing of success stories, film screenings, workshops and exposures to global trends through interactions and workshops.
We hope that personal interactions during this period shall enable our members to engage in productive and meaningful discussions that might bring in shifts of perspective and contemporary reality and help us locate the tribal communities in the contemporary global context.
We hope that personal interactions during the Meet shall enable our members to formulate action plans and chart the future roadmap of the tribal communities in India in a rapidly transforming world of globalisation, urbanisation and technology.
