Usha Kiran Barla is a Retail Experience Designer currently an Assistant Professor and Program Coordinator at the Fashion Design Department at Arka Jain University, Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Apparel Production from National Institute of Fashion Technology, Bengaluru and a Master’s Degree in Retail Experience Design from National Institute of Design, Bengaluru. She has the experience of working in the roles of Key Accounts Executive in Rubyent Apparel Resources Pvt. Ltd (Bangalore), Retail Experience-Visual Merchandising Intern as well as Retail Experience Designer Intern in Jharcraft (Ranchi), Marketing Manager in KEYS Hotels, Corporate Office, Mumbai.
As a person who has always enjoyed academics, she is happy to be working in a university in her native place. She considers Design Research of paramount importance in the field of Design as it shapes the end product to perfection. As academician in Jharkhand she has observed the challenges that students of design face due to lack of exposure, current trends and resources. She believes that oral traditions and knowledge should also evolve with time to prevent them from being obsolete and perishing. Traditional arts if put to more contemporary use can attain a wider purpose with aesthetics.
