Deepti Mary Minj

Political Ecology and Indigenous Rights

Deepti is a researcher currently working on land and Adivasi rights in the Chottanagpur plateau with the Justice in Mining Network, based at Bagaicha Social Centre in Namkum, Ranchi. With an interdisciplinary foundation in political ecology, her academic training spans land economy, gender, labour, and globalisation. Her work critically engages with the impact of mega-development projects—such as mining and industrial corridors—on indigenous communities and their rights.

As a member of an indigenous community from Ranchi, Deepti brings both lived experience and a deep-rooted commitment to her advocacy. She has worked extensively in India’s development sector and has gained international exposure in Germany and the United Kingdom, enriching her perspective on global development discourses.

Deepti is passionate about justice, equality, and freedom, often weaving these themes into her writing and advocacy. Outside her professional work, she is an amateur gardener and farmer, and a musician and singer who finds joy and expression in the arts and the land.
