About Pawan Kujur

Pawan is a versatile visual designer hailing from Jharkhand-Bihar is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree at the National Institute of Design (NID) in Ahmedabad. His work spans graphic design, type design, and branding, with an experimental approach that emphasises system design, research practices, and strategising.
Currently residing in Goa, Pawan is working on his final college type design project in collaboration with Altertype and BrandNewType where he has also worked with multiple brands such as JawaYezdi, Gujarat Titans, Citroën, and Chalet Hotels.
Project Abstract
This project focuses on the development of a versatile typeface for the Tolong Siki script of the Kurukh language, a vulnerable Dravidian language spoken across northern India and neighboring regions. Despite efforts to promote the script, awareness remains limited, with few resources available for learning or daily use. The project aims to address this gap by designing a font that can be applied in multiple contexts and sizes, along with educational materials such as booklets, guides, and workshop modules. These tools will facilitate learning and increase visibility of the script, promoting its use among Kurukh speakers. By creating accessible and well-designed resources, this project contributes to the preservation of the Kurukh language and strengthens the cultural identity of its community.
